Upskill your internal coaches on the green transition

Training that creates an internal force for change and accountability

Imagine that while your sustainability team is working to make change happen from the front, your existing internal coaches are supporting your efforts from behind? With their organisational knowledge and ability to create deep trust, your coaches can support your own team while ensuring other leaders maintain focus and accountability for implementing your plans.

Get just the skills you need in a programme unique to you, with full impact data

Imagine if the sustainability or climate team were not the only ones holding leaders to account for change? What if your existing internal coach network could be trained to hold conversations that moved your strategy forwards, or could support your team more appropriately? We can train your internal coaches to do just that. Our International Coach Federation accredited programme equips coaches to hold more systemic conversations, and to understand the complexity of driving organisational change in the context of the climate crisis.

An impact on your strategy

Just as coaches support leaders to implement other organisational strategies, such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, so they can be trained to implement your sustainability strategy. Internal coaches can also have a tangible impact on the effectiveness of the climate education programmes that you employ with your teams. Many organisations are now training leaders with Carbon Literacy, Climate Fresk, technical training and even Masters degrees. These courses are powerful, yet organisations tell us that their is a real risk of educational programmes failing, once leaders return to their jobs and competing priorities. Internal coaches can be buddied with those leaders from the start of those programmes, to ensure that none of this learning is wasted, and that your organisational budget has the greatest impact. For sustainability and climate teams, having coaches that understand the company, have an interest in the environment and truly understand the green transition, can reduce their sense of isolation and help prevent burnout, as well as facilitating team sessions with a better grasp of your context.

What makes this training different

Unlike individual coaching, our programme addresses the big challenges that coaches face when working in the context of climate change. A big component of this is helping coaches themselves to relate differently to this topic, so that they see their role in the ecosystem of organisational change, and are able to manage their own emotional response to the climate crisis, while helping leaders with theirs. Coaches who have been trained to withhold judgement and advice, can find this much harder to do when the topic is so existential and when the change implicates them because it relates to the organisation as a whole, and not just the individual leader or their team. So alongside excellent new techniques and skills, we also train coaches to relate and respond differently to the concept of systems change itself. Internal coaches trained by us are able to conduct neutral but powerful coaching sessions that keep a leader focussed on the sustainability agenda, by helping them to work through reticence and resistance, and set practical action plans.

Our course has been repeatedly accredited by the International Coach Federation for its faithfulness to the ICF's core coaching competencies, while being judged to be quality CPD for coaches. Coaches gain 28 core competencies, of which 21 are Core points. This means that when added to the ICF's mandatory 3-hour ethics training, you coaches have enough points from our course to renew their ICF coach's credential. While many coaching programmes are not measured, we include impact measurement as standard across all of our programmes, assessing coaches at the start and end of every module and across the course as a whole. We present this data to you, along with qualitative feedback from participants at the end of the programme, so that you are able to see the skills improvement, and demonstrate this to budget-holders.

Enhance your programme with pre-course assessment and post-course mentor coaching

1. OPTIONAL coach assessment

For organisations with a mix of consultants, mentors and coaches in the coaching pool, our assessment can determine whether applicants have the necessary coaching skills for the course. The assessment is a mix of multiple choice questions and qualitative responses, and is based on the ICF core competencies. This can also be a useful means of shortlisting participants where there are too many applicants for one cohort.

2. Programme implementation

Cohorts can be as small as 8 or as large as 45 coaches. Choose from a 9-week fast-track or 16-week fortnightly-spaced programme of 9 live virtual sessions, two of which are practice labs to deep dive into skills. Participants can be buddied with your leaders throughout. In addition, participants receive access to self-paced learning, on our online learning hub. Participants receive a certificate with 28 ICF CCEUs, 21 of which are core points.

3. OPTIONAL mentor coaching to embed skills

Include follow-on mentor coaching sessions to support your coaches as they put our skills into action with your organisational leaders. Mentor coaching groups are purposefully small, with a maximum of 8 coaches, mentored by an expert climate change coach from our team. Each session involves front of room coaching by your coaches, with detailed, and actionable written feedback to support improvement.

What a fantastic experience! The Climate Change Coaches team have put together a learning experience for coaches that both challenges and supports. From creating a safe space to explore to being provocative enough to really stretch our thinking. Guided the whole way through with excellent administrative interventions and the workbook is helpful. It’s made such a difference, thank you.
