Meet the team! – Joey Clifton, coach, facilitator, and community host for changemakers

This month, we’re spotlighting Joey Clifton—coach, facilitator, and community host for changemakers. Based on the wild and beautiful Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall, Joey lives with her husband, daughter, dog, and a lively crew of ducks. Her work focuses on helping purpose-led leaders build resilience, inner clarity, and confidence—so they can lead with courage and impact in a world that urgently needs both.

As July invites us outdoors into longer, brighter days, we’re also gently highlighting the power of 1-1 coaching—the kind of reflective, nature-connected space that Joey so naturally embodies in both her life and work.

A Life in Service of Change

Joey has been a coach since 2011, working with changemakers across sectors to support their inner wellbeing and mindset. Most recently, she launched the ChangeMaker Collective—a community for those doing world-shifting work to do their own inner work too, surrounded by peers who “get it.”

Joey’s care for climate is inseparable from her broader love for people, animals, and justice. With a background in Sustainable Development, she sees the interlinked nature of climate, equity, and wellbeing:

“To care about the climate is to care about all life on earth, and to want to be a living commitment to hope, change and possibility.”

From Vision to Reality

Joey has been part of the Climate Change Coaches story since the very beginning.

“I remember where I was—on a walk with my dog—when Charly first shared the idea. I’ve been championing it ever since.”

What drew her in was more than the vision; it was the energy behind it.

“Charly’s passion, care, professionalism and brilliant brain are a formidable combination. I wanted to be part of something that thought differently about how change happens.”

Why Coaching Matters

Joey sees 1-1 coaching as a unique, expansive kind of support:

“It’s hopeful. It’s about possibility and action. It connects you to your values, your dreams, your power—and helps you move forward from there.”

One moment that’s stuck with her was during her early coach training, watching a peer being coached and feeling unexpectedly moved to tears.

“It showed me how powerful coaching can be, just through the act of deep presence and being truly seen.”

That experience lives on in the way she supports her clients today—many of whom go on to make bold shifts in how they lead, work, and live.

“The feedback I receive is what keeps me doing this work—people saying they’re living more fully, showing up more powerfully in their relationships, knowing their impact.”

Why Climate Change Coaches?

What sets the Climate Change Coaches apart for Joey is how expansive and holistic the work is.

“We don’t just train people to do the same things in slightly better ways—we’re about fresh thinking, new ways of being, and taking bold, conscious action.”

She also believes that the strength of Climate Change Coaches lies in its team spirit:

“We’re more than the sum of our parts. We collaborate, share, and grow together. I think this kind of community will be vital as we move forward in facing global challenges.”

Life on the Coast

Joey’s personal life is rooted in connection—to family, fun, and the land she lives on.

“Right now, I’m making my way through musicals with my six-year-old daughter—we dance around the house to Hairspray and Wonka. When I’m not with her, you’ll find me on the cliffs with my dog Denzel or in the polytunnel.”

Her advice this July? Get outside.

“Whether it’s sitting by a tree, walking in a park, or dipping your toes in the sea, nature restores us. It regulates our breath and opens our bodies. It helps us remember what matters.”
